ENERGY AND CLIMATE CHANGE

TAL Apparel has adopted the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol for quantifying and reporting our GHG footprint. In 2009, by using that year as our baseline, we set our first Greenhouse Gas (GHG) target and aimed?to reducing emissions by 15%.

?

From 2010 to 2014, we reduced our CO2 output by 29,464 tons, which is equivalent to the annual absorption of 4.6 million trees. This figure translates to a 26% GHG intensity reduction, significantly exceeding our initial target of 21%. Since 2015, we have set up a new 4 years plan target to reduce our GHG intensity?by 12% before?the year 2018 with the?baseline of 2014.?

For more information on our GHG Intensity Reduction efforts, please refer to our latest 2014 Sustainability Report?(pages 57 - 58, 63 - 64).

Vietnam – our first LEED gold certified factory

In 2012, our Vietnam factory received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold award presented by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

Gold certification requires a score of between 60 - 79?points. With a score of 73, our Vietnam factory comfortably achieved one?of the highest LEED rating certification among garment manufacturers in Vietnam.

This award demonstrates our innovative approach to developing more eco-friendly manufacturing. Our Hong Kong office and new factory in Vietnam will follow this path.

Water Stewardship

By the end of 2015, TAL Apparel?achieved a 36% reduction in its water footprint intensity compared to the 2011 baseline.?This far exceed our original target to save 15% of water by the end of 2014. Between 2012 and 2015, we reduced our freshwater intake by 573,000?m3, which is equivalent to 235?Olympic swimming pools!?

For more detailed information on our water stewardship, please refer to our latest 2014 Sustainability Report?(pages 59?- 60, 65 - 67).

Waste Management

To reduce the amount of waste we send to landfills, TAL Apparel practices waste prevention and recycling.?

One of our most exciting sustainability initiatives is creating new garments from the?cotton scraps from our cutting tables.?To reduce waste in our factories, we are turning the conventional linear product life cycle of a garment into a circular one. This "Closed Loop"?initiative seeks to recycle and up-cycle waste wherever possible.

By developing recycled cotton products, we are providing eco-conscious brands, retailers and consumers with exciting new choices.

Wastewater Discharge

All the wastewater produced by TAL Apparel's various garment washing processes are treated by our in-house Wastewater Treatment Plants. Our advanced treatment plants are set up with Aerobic, Anaerobic and Bio-Carbon (AABC) technology and no chemicals are used during the treatment. We have set up an internal quality discharge standard that is usually more stringent than the local regulation requirement.

Furthermore, we are continuously working on innovative technologies to recycle and reuse our industrial wastewater. By the end of 2014, we were recycling 14% of our total water consumption.
